Vision Clear As DIRT... Look at this poster and what do you see? Back in February of 2001, when I took a church staff position to serve as Director of Student Ministries, God used this poster to show me a vision for the future of our students. This is of course a comical picture, depicting the time that Jesus literally washed His disciples' dirty feet. I love the sheepish grin of the first in line, probably thinking "This is gonna be good." As the story goes, Christ put on the clothes of a servant (a towel wrapped around His waist), and washed the feet of everyone in the room. Why would the Creator of the universe stoop so low? Because He wanted to teach us all a great truth. He gave the object lesson of a lifetime as He followed-up His actions with these words… |

The heading on the poster says, "CALLED TO SERVE", with this caption at the bottom - "Come get your hands dirty." Serving others in Christ's name is sometimes a dirty and messy business, that's how we came up with the name "D.I.R.T. CREW". Think of the homeless, the 3rd world children, the drunk, the beggar. They are covered by the dirt of this world and need to be washed, both physically and spiritually. Christ was saying it's a dirty business that He expects His followers to do. "Disciples In Real Times" is what D.I.R.T. stands for. In other words, if you want to be a real time disciple, you have to get your hands dirty! If we are not willing to get our hands dirty in ministry, are we really worthy to be called followers of Christ? "Come
