When it comes to servanthood, I keep thinking of Barry Dollar. Barry doesn't just serve the Lord, he gets excited about it, models it, and teaches it just like Jesus. Jesus got his hands dirty washing his disciple's feet. Barry also gets his hands dirty making practical disciples. I have personally known Barry Dollar for some time now, and after knowing his heart and knowing and seeing the work he has been doing in serving the Lord, it is easy to discern that Barry is a godly man with a heart for God and compassion for people, and youth in particular. When Barry Dollar joined our staff, he did not bring with him a cookie-cutter approach to youth ministry. Instead Barry took several weeks to pray, study, research, and look carefully at the teens in our church. He would come into my office once or twice a week or into our staff meeting and discuss what God had given him, a scripture verse or passage, a name, a direction, a passion, and so on. Piece by piece, slowly God brought all of the pieces together. Within a few short months Barry had a vision, a passion, and a viable outlook for youth ministry. "Dirt Crew" was birthed. There is ONE main thing I can say about Barry Dollar... he has a heart for students! This man wants to see youth come to a personal relationship with Christ and then learn to put their Faith into Action. He does that with his D.I.R.T. Crew Camps & Outreaches and through his D.I.R.T. Crew Trading Company. I highly recommended Barry and his ministry. If you want your students to be involved in something that will change them not only in the next life but in this one too, then be a part of Barry's ministry! |

In two months, our group doubled in size... There are some 7 or 8 new kids going to camp. There's a buzz. Leaders are getting excited and getting proactive. Wednesday's worship is with intent, D-Groups have focus, Sunday School has been challenged to rise up with new fire, and the students are sharing their faith with friends and the community. As a youth minister I have personally been blessed to see firsthand the spiritual growth and excitement of students within my youth group as they are experiencing a real “life in Christ”. The “Dirt Crew” experience enables them to take biblical teachings out of the pages of the bible, an actively implement them into their lives TODAY. Students are experiencing humility and compassion just as Christ might have felt in service to the poor and sick, as they themselves do the same in local homeless shelters, retirement homes (read more...) |

I was frustrated, discouraged and afraid that, as a Youth leader in my church, our students were not grounded in the Word of God and growing in their faith because we were too focused on fun.
